- May 27, 2008 - Recorded messages are being left at random phone numbers instructing individuals to call a toll-free number to reactivate their credit/debit card. When you call the toll-free number, you are instructed to enter your credit/debit card information. Arizona Central will never ask for complete account numbers, passwords, credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, or other sensitive information via unsolicited phone calls. If you have received a phone call like this, do not respond! This is a scam.

“Vishing” is a relatively new scam in which a fraudster calls you (typically a recorded message) or sends you an email instructing you to call a toll-free number to verify your account information, home banking login, or bill pay account. Typically these crooks call or send emails at random hoping to reach one of our members. They leave urgent sounding messages hoping to trick you to call.
Once you call the toll-free number, you are instructed to enter a variety of confidential information such as account numbers, PINs, credit card numbers, expiration dates, and the CVC codes on the signature line of your credit card.
It is very important to remember that Arizona Central will NEVER call you and ask you to give or verify this type of personal information by phone.
One exception is our Visa fraud detection system. However, the only information you will be asked to enter is the last four digits or your Social Security number, NEVER the entire number.
Please contact us immediately if you ever have questions or concerns about suspicious phone calls you may have received.

- Visa® Fraud Detection System – This system monitors your account for suspicious activity on Visa card transactions. If potentially fraudulent activity is detected, the system will call you at the phone number you have on record with the credit union. You will be prompted to enter ONLY the last four digits of the primary member’s Social Security number. Once your identity is verified, you will be prompted to confirm whether the activity is legitimate or unauthorized.

Q: How did the fraudster get my phone number?
A: Phone numbers are considered public information, so it could have been obtained from telephone directories, list purchases, or other sources. In addition, fraudsters often use random dialing programs, hoping to reach one of our members. Arizona Central will NEVER share or sell your telephone number to unaffiliated third parties.
Q: What should I do if I provided sensitive account information in response to an unsolicited phone call?
A: Please contact us immediately if you responded to a potential phone scam. A representative will guide you through the steps you should take to minimize potential losses.
